Maker of the month / Treasure Found
My name is Sally and I have always loved jewellery! I also have a passion for the sea and collecting things that the tide brings in.
Following a career in the Pensions and Investments industry, the time finally came when I could invest in my passion for jewellery and release my creativity working in silver. I learned silversmithing under a fantastic teacher, Alice Goldsack, and at her workshop in Bristol I gained the skills needed to bring to life the many designs that had, for so long, existed just in my head.
As my interest became an obsession I created my own workshop overlooking the estuary here in Portishead and have developed my own style and honed my technique. Inspired by the sea and coastal living, I spend a lot of time collecting sea glass and sea pottery on the local beaches and further afield, returning from any beach I go to with bulging pockets full of treasures.
I love to take something that was discarded into the sea decades ago and bring it back to life in a beautiful piece of jewellery that will be enjoyed and treasured by someone who, like me, gets pleasure from carrying with them a little bit from the coast wherever they go.
While I’m working I love to think about who will wear my pieces and I particularly like making jewellery with a certain person in mind. I am happy to take commissions; you may have a lovely piece of sea glass that you would like set in silver or an idea for a piece of jewellery that you would like to have made. I’m happy to have a chat about the possibilities and input my ideas, just get in touch by email: treasurefounddesign@gmail.com
I was delighted to be asked by Claire to be Maker of the Month for September in her beautiful shop. I appreciate how she supports local artists by giving them a platform to share their work
