Maker of the month / Little Red Apple

Our Maker Of The Month for May is Little Red Apple, a jewellery company owned by Emma Garland

Emma told us how her business started ….”When my children were very young I struggled to find children’s birthday cards locally that I really liked, so I started to create my own designs and my business started from there. I still design and sell cards, but I expanded my range to include simple brooches initially and have picked up more jewellery - making skills as I’ve gone along!!”

Emma makes beautiful modern, wooden jewellery and her designs are influenced by her love of clean, crisp design and simple shapes.

Emma says “The wooden pieces I use to make my jewellery are laser cut by a Bristol company who translate my hand drawn sketches into real life wooden shapes. I then sand, paint, varnish and assemble my jewellery by hand in my garden studio in Portishead”

The materials Emma uses are sustainably sourced walnut wood, birch ply and some mirror acrylic. Emma says “I love the versatility of wood, it has a beautiful, natural look and warm, organic feel which contrasts well with other materials and colours. It’s also lightweight, affordable, sustainable and non-irritating if you have sensitive skin.”

The necklaces have sterling silver chains and fasteners. The hoop earrings and studs are silver plated and all of the jewellery packaging is recycled where possible and recyclable.

If you don’t see one of Emma’s pieces in your fav colour, jus get in touch, she’s happy to paint items in different colours.
