Maker of the month / S.K.U.L.P.T

Jorge Mata studied pottery at Plymouth College of Art (PCA) and has been making ceramic artwork for 7 years. He founded the S.K.U.L.P.T Workshop at Carey’s Home & Garden, on Portishead High Street, 2 years ago, where he offers pottery lessons to both amateur and experienced potters. He takes commissions and sells both sculptures and functional pottery.

Jorge's current style of work often employs finishes in rustic, earthy colours and physically draws inspiration from techniques such as ‘kurinuki’ which is a Japanese style of making. Over time, his work evolves and changes incrementally as he continues to experiment with new techniques and glazes, ensuring that he is always making something new and exciting.

Give yourself or a loved one the gift of hands-on pottery lessons with local ceramicist Jorge Mata at S.K.U.L.P.T. Studios, right here on Portishead High St.

Jorge is skilled in both functional pottery and creating more artistic pieces, so get in touch to discuss what you’d like and he can tailor a session or lessons to your requirements. Contact Jorge via his Instagram account @S.K.U.L.P.T
